Where Tradition Meets Modernity in the City of Temples
Jammu, often referred to as the ‘City of Temples,’ is renowned for its ancient temples and Hindu shrines. The city’s planning concept is deeply rooted in the principles of the Mandala, which signifies focus, visualisation, and guidance for seekers or travellers along their path. Mandalas, geometric configurations of symbols, represent the five principal activities and elements of earth, water, sky, fire, and air, each with its associated colour and symbolism. This rich cultural heritage and architectural philosophy are embodied in the design and planning of Hindu temples, which take cues from the structure of the human body and the cosmic man, the ‘Purusha’.
Jammu Airport serves as a vital gateway to this historic and spiritual city. Reflecting the region’s cultural essence, the airport’s design incorporates elements inspired by the Mandala concept and the ancient temple planning principles of Vastu Purusha. The architectural aesthetics aim to create a harmonious blend of traditional symbolism and modern functionality, providing travellers with a unique and immersive experience. With its strategic location and enhanced facilities, Jammu Airport not only caters to the growing influx of tourists and pilgrims but also plays a significant role in promoting the city’s heritage and fostering economic growth.
